I understand what you are saying, I know there are a whole slew of issues to deal with. (Old men sleeping with young children, etc. - I don't agree with that)

The CPS took the children on the basis that the whole community is a Household; I do not believe that is right.

I do not believe every person in that compound practices polygamy or practice underage marriage. It is not OK for them to be swept and taken away. In any religous group not everyone believes exactly the same way as the next - I am not sure that is possible in any religion.

However, I was just trying to focus on the removal of all the children on what seems to be flimsy evidence; if it comes out that they have justified evidence in each case, great - but I don't think that is the what CPS went in there on.

It is unreasonable and unlawful to prosecute one person for another's deeds. That is what I am trying to convey in this situation, we do not have to prove our innocence in this country. So this is all a little too "police state" for me.

CPS had to take "all" the kids ~ that's SOP when dealing with possible abuse cases. They would get into trouble for leaving 1/2 & taking the other 1/2 if they were able to prove that some had been abused ... it's just safer (in 90% of cases) to take the kids out, make sure they are safe & then sort out the details of who was abused & who wasn't. It sucks, but it really is safer for the kids. You have to remember that typically when one punching bag, aka kid, is gone - abusers will find another punching bag & then the second kid is in more danger because now the abuser is REALLY pissed off.

2nd ~ I hate to say it but the community brought a lot of this on themselves by not cooperating with the authorities. If the reports are correct ~ most of the children won't say who their parents are (or confused CPS by listing "all" of their moms & not just saying who their bio-mom is). The mother's originally would not tell whose child was who's, would not say how old they were or even their names in a lot of cases. Many of the attorneys didn't even know which children they were fighting for b/c they didn't know who went with who.

It's not the polygamy that's the problem ~ it's the nasty old men sleeping with 15 & 16 year old girls & calling it Biblical & "married" ... that's the part that they are being persecuted for. Whether the girls believe it's wrong or not ~ it's against the law & they are being sexually abused & need to be protected. If the parents can't guarantee that they will never let this happen to the rest of their younger daughters then that is seen as neglect & abuse in the eyes of the law & the kids will be taken away ... supposedly they've found physical proof of abuse against the boys also, and the parents will have to show that they understand that you can't LITTERALLY take a rod to your child to discipline them - or the boys won't be able to stay either.

Ok this is officially the longest reply ever in the history of blogging, so I'm going to shut up now. But I understand your fears ~ & yeah I think CPS is probably missing a lot of tangible proof of abuse at this point ~ but if this is a lifestyle & belief system, isn't it better for the kids that society at least tries to jump to their rescue & show them that this isn't how life has to be & that there are other options?
